Troy University: Admission Requirements 

The Troy University  encourages fresh applicants, continuing students and transfer students to apply now and gain admission to the university.  Eligible candidates can apply to  the Troy University of their choice, including obtaining an online degree.  Applicants should be aware that TROY operates across a number of facilities and locations, so it is important that you be specific when indicating your choice of location.

The heritage of teaching excellence at Troy University stretches back to its inception on February 26, 1887, when the Alabama Legislature founded Troy State Normal School as an institution to train teachers for the state’s schools. The institution’s first president was Joseph Macon Dill. Troy State Normal College was established in 1893.

Applicants who are 21 years of age or older are not required to submit ACT/SAT scores for admission to the university. All applicants who have graduated from an accredited high school must present official transcripts demonstrating graduation and a minimum of fifteen Carnegie units, including three or more English units of which Eleven units must be used in academic courses.

Troy University Application For Admission 2025-2026 Requirements

Test Optional Admission:

Students beginning classes in 2025 are able to be admitted without submitting ACT or RSAT scores.

  • Unconditional Admission: 3.0 GPA
  • Conditional Admission: 2.5 GPA

Unconditional Admission:

  • 0 High School GPA
  • 20 ACT or 1030 RSAT (950 SAT-1 if taken prior to March 2016)

Conditional Admission:

  • 5 High School GPA
  • 17-19 ACT or 910 RSAT (830 SAT-1 if taken prior to March 2016)
  • <2.0 GPA
  • 20 ACT or 1030 RSAT (950 SAT-1 if taken prior to March 2016)

 

Troy University Application Requirements for obtaining a GED:

  • After March 1, 2016, you must have a score of 145 on all subjects and a minimum of 17 on the ACT or 1030 on the SAT.
  • After January 1, 2014, you must have a minimum of 150 on all exam subjects and a minimum of 17 on the ACT or 1030 on the SAT.
  • A cumulative score of at least 500 (or equivalency outside AL) on a test taken before January 1, 2014, and a minimum of 17 ACT or 1030 SAT.
  • For admission to the university, applicants who are 21 years old or older are not required to submit ACT/SAT scores.

Financial Aid Requirement

To be considered for financial aid, you must meet all of the following criteria:

  • You must formally apply for admission to Troy University.

 

  • You must be a United States citizen or an eligible non-citizen (FAFSA instructions). Also see U.S. Citizenship Immigration Services (USCIS formerly INS) a Bureau of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

 

  • You must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.

 

  • You must be seeking a degree in an eligible program and making satisfactory progress toward that degree. Certification programs are not eligible for Federal Aid. As long as you are a transient student (not a degree-seeking student) at Troy University, we are unable to award you aid.

  • You must not be in default on any federal education loan, and you must not owe a refund because of the overpayment of a previous federal grant or loan at any college or university. You may check your status on the National Student Loan Database System (NSLDS).

 

  • You must be registered with the Selective Service as required by law.

 

  • You must have a valid social security number. The data fields for your date of birth, name, and social security number reported on your FAFSA must match with those data elements at the Social Security Administration and at Troy University.

 

  • If these do not match you must correct any errors with the FAFSA processor; you can make changes (married name, etc.) to Social Security records by submitting proper documentation to the Social Security Administration & Troy University. Additionally, if you are continuing to borrow student loans, you must also make sure your name at school, at the social security office, at your lender and at your guarantor all match.
