The University of South Alabama would like to extend a warm welcome to all fresh applicants, returning students and transfer students. USA Application Required Documents For Admission 2025-2026
- Official high school transcript with a minimum GPA of 2.50
- Official ACT or SAT scores: ACT super score of 19 OR SAT (critical reading + math only) score of 900 (if taken before March 2016) OR SAT (Evidence-based reading and writing + math only) score of 990 (if taken March 2016 or after)
- These are the minimum requirements.
All students with excellent academic records are invited to apply.
Required Academic Core Courses:
- 4 years of English
- 3 years of social science
- 3 years of Math- Must include Algebra I and two higher level math courses (for example Algebra II, Algebra w/ Finance, Algebraic Connections, Geometry,
- Trigonometry, Analytical Geometry, Pre-Calculus, or other higher-level math courses will be considered)
- 3 years of science (At least two of the sciences must include labs)
- 3 years of advanced electives (Courses chosen from any of the four core areas above and may include foreign language)
The Alabama High School Diploma with Advanced Endorsement satisfies all core requirements at the University of South Alabama. The Alabama High Schools Credit Based Diploma is approved; however, students must satisfy all of the high school core criteria specified above.
Students will be able to enroll in mathematics classes on the USA if they have completed a prerequisite course, have a Math-ACT or Math-SAT score, or have taken the Mathematics Placement test. This is where you’ll find math placement. Based on their ACT-English, ACT-Reading, or SAT-Critical Reading scores, students may be required to take reading or English courses.
GED
GED for the First Time
- Freshmen applicants took the General Education Development (GED) test in high school but did not complete their education.
- Applicants must be 17 years old or older.
Special Freshmen
- Applicants for Special Freshmen must have graduated from high school five years or more ago or be at least 23 years old.
- Official high school transcripts are required official documents.
Fees for applications
- For online applications, the fee is $35; for paper applications, the charge is $45.

- The application portal is the most convenient way to apply.
- You will be prompted to create an account, which will allow you to fill out an application and monitor the status of your application.
- You can also use The Common Application to apply.
