Academic Overview
York University offers several degree-bearing Bachelor’s Degree programs that are designed to provide learners with the tools that they need to succeed efficiently and independently. York University offers over 100 different programs through its eight different faculties. Learners can select majors and minors from one of the faculty or choose an interdisciplinary program that allows them to explore more than one interest. It is also worth noting that many Bachelor’s degree students at York University actually change their minds about the program that they want to pursue while taking other classes during their first year. So, if you’re still trying to decide on a career path, or you change your mind about the program that you wish to pursue after submitting your application, Learners don’t need to fret. Applicants have some room to make changes at York.
Again, York University students also have access to several programs that allow them to get work experience while completing their degrees. The university’s work-focused experiential education gives students an opportunity to participate in paid co-op programs, paid internships, practicums, etc. All of these opportunities give students a chance to see what a professional career in their chosen fields would entail and get real hands-on experience.
University of York Admission Entry requirements;
1. At York University, students must have qualified from a recognized post-secondary institution holding an honours degree or equivalent. Some programs at York University consider applicants with a three-year undergraduate degree and relevant work experience.
First degrees not designated as honours degrees may be authorized as the equivalent of First-degree honours if they contain a minimum of 120 credits (typically, a four-year program with full-time enrolment) including the completion of a minimum of 6 credits at the fourth-year level at an accredited postsecondary institution.
Three-year first-cycle bachelor’s degrees from institutions that meet the criteria set forth in the Bologna Declaration may be acceptable as the equivalent of a Bachelor’s degree honours.
If you fulfil your first degree or master’s studies outside Canada, you may need to complete additional courses to qualify for admission to a graduate program at York.
If you have completed a four-year First degree at an Ontario College of Applied Arts and Technology, Students must contact the Office of Admissions to have the requirement added to your record. This will allow your transcript to be uploaded to continue the admission process.
2. A minimum grade point average (GPA) of at least a “B” or equivalent, is required. Most programs require at least a “B+” or equivalent. Your GPA is assessed over the last two years of undergraduate study (full-time, or equivalent); or, if you have a master’s degree, we will use your highest level of education to calculate your GPA. Your GPA is a critical consideration in determining admissibility. Also, be sure to check the specific requirements of your program of choice. In rare cases, a program any choose to give priority to a candidate’s professional or creative accomplishments, or other relevant experiences, recommendations, portfolio, or test results.
PhD ADMISSIONS
Most PhD programs at York University require applicants to have a master’s degree in order to be eligible to pursue a PhD. A select few programs offer a direct-entry PhD option, more information can be found on our Explore Programs page. Most programs require at least a “B+/A-” or equivalent. International fees are applicable for applicants or Students who do not have the status specified above, or who apply to York and declare themselves as visa students will be charged tuition fees at international rates.
HOW PAYMENTS ARE MADE
York University Student Account Online Statement give back all charges assessed to your account. You can pay your student account through your bank, credit union or Caisse Populaire using telephone or online banking.
Although there is not a specific charge on your account for the new-student registration deposit (which is part of your tuition fees), housing deposit, or graduate confirmation deposit these can be paid using telephone or online banking as well.
- * Contact your financial institution (bank, credit union or Caisse Populaire) in order to set up your bank account(s) for telephone or online banking. The company name/payee is York University.
- * Use your York student number as the account number.
- * When you pay through telephone or online banking through a major Canadian bank (TD Canada Trust, RBC Royal Bank, Scotiabank, CIBC or BMO Bank of Montreal), it may take up to four business days for your payment to be transferred to your York student account. Processing times through other banking institutions may be longer.
- * Please ensure you allow enough time between your payment and the due date for funds to be posted to your account.

REGISTRATION DEPOSIT FEES
(UNDERGRADUATE APPLICANTS NEW TO THE UNIVERSITY OF YORK)
Registration fees are part of the tuition fees, it is not supplementary fee. The deposit confirms applicants’ registration at York University and unlocks services they will need to prepare for the start of classes and continue through their courses.
For the Fall/Winter 2023-2024 session, a $300 deposit must be paid after the applicant begins enrolling in courses.
