Before you apply to the University of York (checklist)

  1. Applicant must consider their module course options.

 

  1. Applicants must check that they meet the entry requirements. Discover more about their academic and undergraduate and postgraduate English language requirements.

 

  1. Applicants must choose when they would like to study at York. At York University Our academic year is split into three terms:
  • Autumn Term: 26 September 2022 – 2 December 2022
  • Spring Term: 9 January 2023 – 17 March 2023
  • Summer Term (undergraduate): 17 April 2023 – 23 June 2023
  • Summer Term (taught postgraduate): 17 April 2023 – 22 September 2023.

 

Each term is typically ten weeks long. Applicants can come to York for one, two or three terms, or the equivalent of one semester at your home university.

  • Autumn or Spring Term
  • Autumn + Spring Terms or Spring + Summer Terms
  • Autumn, Spring and Summer Term

 

At York University, It is not possible for an undergraduate student to only study for the Summer term only.

Before you submit your application, please check the dates you wish to study with us are available in your chosen department.

Postgraduate Research students can apply throughout the year. Please select the date you wish to start when submitting your application. This will be confirmed with your department at the point of making an offer.

 

  1. Applicants must get their supporting documents ready. You must provide the following supporting documents along with your application:
  • Academic transcript from your home university (original documents and official translated copies if not in English)
  • English language certificate (if applicable)
  • Name and email address of a referee or a letter of recommendation from your home university (for postgraduate research students only)

Some departments at York University may ask you to submit additional supporting materials with your application. It is important to submit all supporting documents with your application. We cannot consider your application until these have been received.

Research applicants

Applicants applying as research students should please contact the relevant University department before beginning their application to ensure that appropriate supervision for your project can be provided. Applicants will be asked to provide the name of their preferred supervisor as part of their application.

Applicants should complete the application form that’s nearest to the dates they wish to study with us. Applicants can give the actual dates in their application form. Postgraduate Research students can apply throughout the year. Please applicants should select the date they wish to start when submitting their application. This will be confirmed with their department at the point of making an offer.

Application Guidance

 

Creating an account

Applicants will need to create an account to start the application process and set themselves up as new user. The School will then send you a confirmation email with your login details.

Applicants don’t need to complete their application all at once: you can start it, save it and finish it later. Remember that the UK uses the dd/mm/yyyy format for dates.

 

TUITION AND FEES

University of York Course fees are based on the number of credits to which you are admitted (except Bachelor of Design). All expenditures are in Canadian dollars.

The tuition fees are classified into two folds; that’s, Domestic and International.

Domestic Fees

For the Applicant to be eligible for domestic fees, the Applicant must be either a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada (otherwise known as a landed immigrant) effective on the dates specified on an annual basis.

 

International Fees

Applicants who do not have the standings specified above, or who apply to York and declare themselves as visa applicants will be charged tuition fees at international rates.

 

HOW FEES ARE PAID AT THE UNIVERSITY OF YORK

Applicants’ Account Online Statement reflects all charges assessed to their account. Applicants can pay their student account through your bank, credit union or Caisse Populaire using telephone or online banking.

There is not a specific charge on your account for the new-applicant registration deposit (which is part of the tuition fees), housing deposit, or graduate confirmation deposit these can be paid using telephone or online banking as well.

  1. Applicants should contact their financial institution (bank, credit union or Caisse Populaire) in order to set up their bank account(s) for telephone or online banking. The company name/payee is York University.
  2. Students at York University should use their York student number as the account number.
  3. Applicant paying through telephone or online banking through a major Canadian bank (TD Canada Trust, RBC Royal Bank, Scotiabank, CIBC or BMO Bank of Montreal), it may take up to four business days for the applicant’s payment would be transferred to their York student account.

 

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT FEES PAYING

York University does not uplift the use of third-party intermediaries such as agents to avoid any future issues with refunds. The University also caution all fee payments should be made payable to “York University” and not to a third party.

 

REGISTRATION DEPOSIT FEES (UNDERGRADUATE APPLICANTS NEW TO THE UNIVERSITY OF YORK)

Registration deposit fees are part of the tuition fees, it is no additional fee. The deposit confirms applicants’ registration at York University and unlocks services they will need to prepare for the start of classes and continue through their courses.

 

For the Fall/Winter 2023-2024 session, a $300 deposit must be paid after the applicant begins enrolling in courses.
