Calhoun Community College is a public community college in Tanner, Alabama. It is the 2nd largest of the 24 two-year institutions that make up the Alabama Community College System.

The college was founded in 1946 and named after John C. Calhoun, the 7th Vice-President of the United States. He was a War Hawk of 1812, hence the Calhoun athletic teams’ names.

The Huntsville Campus first opened its doors in 2006. Originally, the Sparkman Building housed a Chrysler electronics manufacturing. Calhoun Community College paid $4.5 million for the building, which included $2 million for a five-year cleanup project.

The Math, Science, and CIS building was completed in 2014 and opened in 2016.

The institution has campuses in Huntsville/Cummings Research Park, downtown Decatur’s Alabama Center for the Arts, and the Limestone County Correctional Facility, in addition to its main 110-acre (45-hectare) campus in Tanner. Along Highway 31, the campus is next to Pryor Field Regional Airport.

Calhoun has a student body of just over 8,000 students. It has 49 associate degree programs and 52 certificate and vocational options to choose from. Calhoun has 302 full-time employees, 133 of them are college professors. Over 80% of full-time faculty hold a master’s degree or higher, with approximately 15% holding a PhD.
