A social award alludes to awards paid by government to South African residents who are needing help. In South Africa, social awards are controlled by the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA). Social awards are set up to help improve ways of life in the public eye and are given to individuals who are powerless against neediness and needing state uphold. These for the most part incorporate more established individuals, individuals with handicaps, and individuals with little youngsters. All candidates for social awards should be South African residents, lasting inhabitants or outcasts (official exile status allowed by the South African government should be given) and up-and-comers should be living in South Africa. Social Assistance is given as:

  • Grant for older persons
  • Disability grant
  • War veterans grant
  • Care dependency grant
  • Foster child grant
  • Child support grant
  • Grant-in-aid
  • Social Relief of Distress

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • The primary care giver must be a South African citizen, permanent resident or refugee.
  • Both the applicant and the child must reside in South Africa.
  • The applicant must be the primary care giver of the child/ children concerned.
  • The child/children must been born after 31 December 1993.
  • The applicant and spouse must meet the requirements of the means test.
  • Child can not apply for more than six non biological children.
  • Child cannot be cared for in state institution.
