NSFAS is a government entity under the Department of Higher Education and Training established according to the NSFAS Act (Act 56 of 1999) to provide financial support to disadvantaged students who wish to further their studies at public universities or TVET colleges.
You will only qualify for a government bursary offered via the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) if you will apply. The 2023 Nsfas application will be open from the 28th of September 2022 and it will be closing on the 7th of January 2023.

College of Cape Nsfas Application Requirements 2023
To be deemed acceptable for processing, a student’s bursary application form must include the following:
- NC(V) or Report 191 programs and Levels registered for;
- Personal details (including contact numbers, email addresses, etc.);
- Certified Copy of Identity Document;
- Applicant’s current home address;
- Address while studying;
- Postal Address;
- Salary and other income information of the parent/guardian on whom the student is dependent (pensioners should submit an affidavit as proof);
- Details of next of kin (ID numbers, first names and surname, contact details and relationship to student);
- Details of parent(s) and / or guardian(s) (ID numbers, first names and surname and contact details);
- Residential address/addresses of parent(s) and / or guardian(s);
- Sworn affidavits from parents/guardians if they are unemployed;
- Certified death certificates if parents/guardians are deceased;
- Number of family members in the household (including their certified ID copies); and
- Age and educational status (complete primary, incomplete secondary –Grade level for those still in school, complete secondary, diploma/certificate/degree) of members in the household.

The below process will guide you in applying for the 2023 Nsfas bursary:
- Go to www.nsfas.org.za
- Click on myNsfas Tab
- Click on register
- Tick the box to allow Nsfas to verify your details
- Capture your ID number as it is stated on your ID documents
- Type in your full name and surname as indicated on the ID
- Enter your current and functioning email address
- Confirm your email address
- Enter your cell phone number
- Create a password for yourself
- Confirm the password you generated
- Upload your ID copy
- Click on Register to apply
- An OTP will be sent to the email and phone number you provided ( the OTP will expire within 24hrs)
- Type in the OTP and click on SUBMIT
- Your Nsfas application has been successfully completed
