Drake State Community and Technical Application is a Huntsville, Alabama-based community college and technical vocational school. The university is the first and only Alabama community college. Individuals who meet the following criteria and have completed and submitted an application for admission, residency form, official high school and college transcripts, and proof of identification are eligible for admission to courses leading to an associate degree, certificate, or short-term certificate.
One primary form of photo documentation, such as:
- Alabama driver’s license or instruction permit that hasn’t expired
- Alabama identification card that hasn’t expired
- Passport from the United States that hasn’t expired
- Permanent Resident Card from the United States that hasn’t expired
- Pre-1997 Resident Alien Card
- Unexpired driver’s license or instruction permit from another state or possession, dated 2000 or later, that shows the lawful presence
- Prior to the 1978 BIA, a US Alien Registration Receipt Card (Form I-151) or a tribal identification card with a photo I-797 Form with Expiration Date
- Military ID that hasn’t expired

Drake State Community and Technical College Application Process for Admission 2025-2026
High School Graduates
A student who has earned an Alabama High School Diploma, a high school credential from another state that is comparable to the Alabama High School Diploma, or a non-public high school diploma that is equivalent to the Alabama High School Diploma; The Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees is reviewing policies pertaining to non-public, non-accredited high school certificates.
A student who holds a GED Certificate issued by the appropriate state education agency.
Non-High School Graduates
Non-high school graduates or non-GED recipients seeking admission may only enrol in non-degree creditable courses or programs.
Non-high school graduates or non-GED holders admitted to an Alabama Community College System institution must be able to benefit from instructional training, as evidenced by passing an approved academic evaluation with at least minimal results. This regulation prohibits students from enrolling in associate degree-granting courses or programs.

Apply for your FSA ID.

When you access your financial aid information and electronically sign Federal Student Aid documents, your FSA ID verifies your identification. When you log in to www.fafsa.gov, you can create an FSA ID if you don’t already have one. *Important: The account should only be created and used by the owner of the FSA ID. Fill out the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) form (FAFSA). The green “Start Here” button should be clicked. - From the drop-down box, choose the applicable award year.
