Athens State University offers senior and junior level courses as well as graduate programs. The online application is for FRESH STUDENTS ONLY. If you have applied or attended Athens State before, please do not apply for admissions online. Please complete a ReAdmission Form and send it to the Admissions & Records Office.Each semester, over 3,000 students choose Athens State because of the friendly environment in which over 50 distinct degree programs are taught by knowledgeable and caring staff.

Athens State University Application Requirements

Before filling out an application, you should have already reviewed our catalog for specific admissions and degree program requirements. The general admission requirements are:

Credit Hours – sixty-four semester hours of college credit from a regionally accredited institution
Grade Point Average – at least a 2.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale

The online admissions process is a four step process:

Complete the seven-part application
Pay the non-refundable application fee (VISA or MasterCard only)
Official/Unofficial transcripts must be received and reviewed to determine if you meet admission requirements. (Refer to Admissions Homepage)
You will be notified of your application status when this is complete.

NOTE: You may complete the admissions process in one sitting or you may finish any part of it at a later time. Once you have paid and submitted the application, you cannot make changes to it online. If you wish to make changes to your submitted application, you must contact the Admissions office. They will need the Login ID you created as a “First Time User.”

If you attempt to correct the application by submitting a new application, you will be charged an additional non-refundable application fee.

Students pursuing a degree

The University reserves the right to decide the admissibility of any transfer credit toward the accomplishment of a student’s degree requirements at Athens State, regardless of the category of admission.

Prior to the period of admission, you must have acquired 36 transferable semester hours from a regionally approved institution(s); and
On a 4.0 scale, you must have a minimum 2.0 cumulative transfer GPA; and
Minimum of 15 hours of general education prerequisites; and
Returning to previously attended institutions or universities is possible.

Students pursuing a BSN degree in nursing

Minimum of 36 transferable semester hours from regionally accredited institution(s) prior to term of admission; and Minimum 2.0 cumulative transfer GPA on a 4.0 scale; and Minimum 15 hours applicable to general education requirements; and Eligible to return to previously attended colleges or universities; and Current, unencumbered RN License.

International Students Pursuing a Degree

In addition to the admissions standards given above, all overseas students must meet all F-1 VISA requirements in order to be admitted to any Undergraduate Program.
