TVET Colleges 2026-2027

From practical education to improved job prospects, TVET colleges are an excellent choice for those wanting to gain real-world skills and qualifications. If you’re planning your studies for 2026-2027, it’s worth understanding how TVET colleges can prepare you to succeed in your chosen career. These institutions focus on hands-on training that equips students with the abilities employers are looking for, giving you a strong foundation to thrive after graduation. TVET colleges were introduced in South Africa in 2012, marking an important shift in the country’s technical education system. Before that, Further Education Training (FET) colleges served the country, but all were rebranded as TVET colleges and brought under the management of the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET).

There are 50 TVET colleges spread across South Africa, offering a wide variety of courses in technical, vocational, and occupational fields. At these colleges, students enroll in skills-focused programs that lead to the National Certificate Vocational (NCV). This certificate is recognized nationally and designed to build practical competencies that match industry needs. Whether you’re interested in fields like engineering, business, hospitality, or information technology, TVET colleges provide training that combines theory and practice, ensuring you’re ready for the workforce.

Choosing a TVET college means you can access affordable education tailored to hands-on learning. These colleges also often have strong links with local employers, creating opportunities for work experience and internships. For many students, TVET colleges offer a straightforward route to obtaining qualifications that open doors to further education or direct employment. As you plan your TVET college application for 2026-2027, keep in mind the valuable skills and qualifications these institutions offer. They are designed to boost your employability and help you build a successful career in today’s competitive job market.
